Greenhouse Gases

HRM has prepared a corporate plan to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from HRM municipal government operations.  This Plan was adopted by Regional Council on September 13, 2005.

This Plan will help HRM fulfill our commitments under the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program, and represents the third of five milestones in HRM's PCP progress. HRM's target is to reduce our corporate HGH emissions, to 20% below 2002 levels, by 2012.

HRM has also prepared a Community Local Action Plan for Greenhouse Gas Reduction (PDF, 5.4 MB) for the broader community.

Individual residents can make a contribution to GHG reduction, through things like reducing energy (electricity and home heating) and vehicle use.  You'll save money as well!
