Facility Development - Buildings and Parks
Facility Devlopment is one of HRM’s internal service providers. The section is comprised of two unique streams, Buildings and Parks, responsible for the planning, implementation and delivery of a broad range of new development and recapitalization projects supporting HRM’s portfolio of physical assets and corporate initiatives. The assets include over 1400 parks and 350 buildings.
It is through this service delivery that HRM is able to create healthy, sustainable, vibrant and safe communities which allows residents of HRM to derive social and personal benefits.
Facility Development - Buildings is responsible for the administration of HRM’s indoor facilities capital projects. This includes the project management of the recapitalization of existing HRM assets as well as the project management of construction of new assets on behalf of client Business Units in support of their service and program delivery. The range of services supplied includes facility planning, design, financial control and construction supervision.

Facility Development - Parks is responsible for the delivery of over 250 outdoor recreational facilities capital projects annually. This may include the recapitalization of existing outdoor recreational facilities or the construction of new outdoor recreational facilities. Included in this list are playgrounds, community parks, regional trails, sport courts, sport fields, skateboarding parks, lawn bowling, outdoor spray pools, cemeteries, walkways, as well as HRM flagship facilities such as Point Pleasant Park, Sir Sandford Fleming Park and the Dartmouth Common.
In the delivery of these projects staff provide specialized detailed design, community consultation and project management to ensure that the end product will enrich the lives of HRM residents and communities.
