On June 20, 2006 Regional Council approved a Corporate GIS Data Dissemination Policy. The policy defines what HRM charges for the dissemination of digital and hard copy geographic data. It defines the type of data covered by the policy and the categories of clients who may access the data and the conditions. All geographic data stored on the HRM corporate GIS are covered by this policy. Responsibility for implementation of the policy rests with the Manager of the GISS Team; Finance & ICT - Enterprise Applications.

Amendment

 On September 25, 2012 Regional Council adopted the concept of Open Data by approving an Open Data initiative, and declared HRM data to be “Open” through an Open Data pilot. Regional Council amended the first of Article I (“Data Covered by Policy”) on page 1 of the current GIS Data Dissemination Policy (Attachment A) by adding the clause “excepting those data sets listed in Schedule C”.
