Future Transit Initiatives
Porters Lake MetroX Service
Construction will begin spring 2013 on the Porters Lake Park & Ride, at Exit 20, off the Highway 107.
Located adjacent to the new Porters Lake Elementary school, and the Lake and Shore Recreation Centre, the lot will be serviced by MetroX, a limited-stop, commuter express service, expected later in 2013.
This will be Metro Transit's third such service, building on the previous successful launches of the MetroX routes 330 Tantallon/Sheldrake Lake and the 320 Airport/Fall River.
Investing in Service Quality and Reliability
Metro Transit will improve the customer experience by continuing to invest in service quality and reliability.
Schedule adherence has been identified as the pressing issue through on-going customer surveys, and as such, will be addressed by allocating available resources to reduce schedule inefficiencies, while improving service reliability.
As traffic congestion continues to rise in HRM, trip travel times also increase, so schedules will be adjusted to maintain consistent on-time performance.
Fleet Recapitalization
Currently, the Metro Transit fleet includes 320 buses, 21 of which have 18 years of service.
Benefits of the recapitalization strategy is an improved, environmentally-friendly bus fleet. Advancements in clean air technology have substantially reduced diesel pollution, meaning a cleaner, quieter transit fleet.
In 2013, Metro Transit will add 17 new replacement buses to its fleet, allowing older vehicles to be retired.
