Q. When do I submit my resume?
A. We only accept resumes when we are recruiting. To find out when we will be recruiting next, refer to the recruiting main page. When we begin accepting resumes, we will advertise through the media and on our web site. We will also conduct several information sessions during this period.
Q. How soon after I submit my resume will I be notified to write the test?
A. Usually we advertise and accept resumes for approximately 2 - 3 months. Therefore, we will advertise on our website under Process Updates and forward correspondence when we will be conducting Aptitude testing. In the interim, you will not be contacted, unless your resume/application is missing documents.
Q. When does the next recruitment start and when will I begin training?
A. We are not currently recruiting.
Q. Is this program subject to student loans?
A. Yes, we are recognized as a training program through the Province of Nova Scotia and as an Educational Institute. Therefore, student loans may be an option. Some major financial lenders have assisted our cadets in the past with loans and payment options.
Q. Can I work or attend school during the Police Science Program?
A. You are able to work, however, it can not interfere with your studies. You must also have the permission from the Chief of Police regarding any off duty employment. As for school, you may not have the time to do both during your training.
Q. What does a typical day look like in the Police Science Program?
A. You will arrive at HRP Training Centre, 2 Chapman Drive at 6:45 a.m. for physical or strength training. At 8:30 a.m. you will report to class ready for the days lessons. One night during the week you will have a law class from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. There will also be a few commitments during your training, for evenings or weekends.
Q. Will I have a job when I am done my training?
A. Yes, as long as you successfully complete your training. HRP commits to employing the successful cadets, however, employment may not be immediately following the completion of your Cadet training.
Q. Will HRP provide accommodations for out of town Cadets?
A. No, we do not have the facility to accommodate this.
Q. Does having a degree or certificate program advance me further in the recruitment process?
A. No. Having a degree or a certificate will provide you with the skills to be competitive in each stage of the process. However, it will not advance you solely based on acquiring one. We would consider this an additional asset.
Q. Who are you attempting to recruit? What are the demographics of your recruitment campaign?
A. Our goal is to hire a diverse population reflective of the community we serve. Our recruitment campaigns encourage full participation of individuals from diverse communities who have a vision of policing and community safety.
