TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to Section 63 of the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter, the Council of Halifax Regional Municipality will consider the below-market-value sale of a Land and Water portion of municipal surplus property, Lot H-3, located between civic addresses 5985 and 5795 Africville Road, Halifax, PID 41320326 at a meeting of Regional Council to be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at City Hall, Council Chambers, 3rd Floor, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax.
Halifax Regional Council, at a meeting held on May 7, 2024, approved a motion to schedule a public hearing to consider the sale of a land and water portion of Lot H-3, PID 41320326, [without civic address] located between civic addresses 5985 and 5795 Africville Road, Halifax, to the Africville Heritage Trust Society (AHT) as per the terms and conditions outlined in the staff report dated February 26, 2024, entitled, Property Matter - Africville Heritage Trust.
The Council-approved surplus property, composed of a land portion of Lot H-3 at Africville Road, Halifax, which measures approximately 2,787 square metres (30,000 square feet) in area, and an adjacent water lot portion of Lot H-3, which measures approximately 4,645 square metres (50,000 square feet), together, have an estimated market value of $446,000 (2024). The purpose of the proposed sale of this surplus property to the Africville Heritage Trust Society is for ancillary uses associated with the Society’s mandates, namely but not limited to: museum venue expansion, parking, related programming, special events and grounds.
All oral and written submissions will be considered, and written submissions are welcome and encouraged in advance of the Hearing itself. Burnside Industrial Park Phase 13-1 Development Opportunities now available
With the construction of Phase 13-1 Burnside nearing completion, the submission process for Phase 13-1 development opportunities has been released on Monday October 30th, 2023 and will remain open for submissions until 4:00pm December 11th, 2023. Halifax Regional Council at a meeting held on January 24, 2023, approved a motion to set a public hearing to consider the sale of PID 00002063 located at civic 1940 Gottingen Street, Halifax, to the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Society (MNFS) as per the terms and conditions outlined in Table 1 of the staff report dated January 18, 2023, entitled Administrative Order 50 Disposal of Surplus Real Property: PID 00002063 1940 Gottingen Street, Halifax.
The surplus property at 1940 Gottingen Street, Halifax measures 5,277 square meters (56,801 square feet) in area, has an estimated market value of $11,700,000 (2022), and is the site of the vacant [former] Red Cross building, which is being prepared for demolition. The purpose of the sale of the surplus property to the MNFS is to be the site of a new Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre.
