Eligibility

Appointments are made in accordance with our Public Appointments Policy and applicants must live in the Halifax Regional Municipality to be considered. While most boards, committee and commissions have a minimum age requirement of 19 years, youth aged 15-24 may apply for the African Descent Advisory Committee and Youth Advisory Committee, with those under the age of 19 requiring consent from a parental/legal guardian when applying. Employees of the Halifax Regional Municipality and relatives of Members of Council are not eligible for appointment.

Active Transportation Advisory Committee:

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is currently recruiting five (5) members to serve on the Active Transportation Advisory Committee. Positions include:

  • Two (2) Members at Large 
  • One (1) Senior Representative (55+)
  • One (1) Youth Representative (18-30)
  • One (1) Walkability Representative – represents a group that promotes walkability in the region

The Municipal Clerk's Office is currently recruiting four (4) members to serve on the African Descent Advisory Committee including:

  • One (1) Recent Immigrant of African Descent
  • One (1) Representative of African Descent from Dartmouth
  • One (1) Representative from the historic African Nova Scotian Community of East Preston
  • One (1) Representative descendant from the historic African Nova Scotian Community of Africville

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is currently recruiting two (2) community members with an accounting designation and experience working with or in the public sector to serve on the Audit Committee.

The Municipal Clerk's Office is currently recruiting one (1) citizen at large to serve on the Board of Police Commissioners.


Design Review Committee:

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is currently recruiting ten (10) members to serve on the Design Review Committee.

The Municipal Clerk’s Office is currently recruiting five (5) appeal committee members to serve on the License Appeal Committee.


Point Pleasant Park Advisory Committee:

The Municipal Clerk's Office is currently recruiting five (5) community members at large to serve on the Point Pleasant Park Advisory Committee including:

  • Four (4) frequent users of the Park
  • One (1) community member from the immediate neighbourhood.

  • Two (2) youth from the geographic boundaries of Harbour East-Marine Drive Community Council (Districts 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6)
