The item had several labels on it including a green sticker that said Hazardous Material Contact Police or Military. The building was subsequently evacuated and vehicle and pedestrian traffic were shut down.
Officers with the Explosive Disposal Unit attended the scene and determined that it item was an oversized marine flare that had been filled with phosphorous which had been burned off. Police remind citizens that if they have an explosive that needs to be disposed of, or something that appears to be an explosive object, do not move or touch it and contact the Police immediately. Do not attempt to bring it to the Police station or local Fire Department, as movement of an explosive or a potential explosive puts yourself and others at risk.
