Advisory: thefts from vehicles

Halifax Regional Police continue to warn citizens about thefts from motor vehicles in Dartmouth.

Since March 14, police have received at least twelve reports of items being taken from unattended vehicles in the area of Joan Eleanor Drive in Portland Estates.  Additionally, there have been at least seventeen reports of theft from motor vehicles in the Highfield Park area. In most cases, attractive objects were left in plain sight and in some cases, vehicles were left unlocked. Most happened in the late evening and overnight hours.

Thefts from vehicles are usually crimes of opportunity. Visible items tempt would-be thieves. Citizens should remove all items from their vehicles (purses, tablets & laptops, satellite radios or other equipment that appears valuable). If it is absolutely necessary to leave items in a vehicle, they should be locked in the trunk out of plain sight before arriving at your destination.

Citizens who have had items stolen from their vehicles are asked to report by calling 902-490-5016 or online at http://www.halifax.ca/Police/OnlineCrimeReporting/OnlineCrimeReporting.php

Citizens are encouraged to call police at 902-490-5020 if they observe any suspicious activity in or around parked vehicles. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or by using the P3 Tips app.
