The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking volunteers for various Regional Council advisory boards and committees.

Municipal government is the most accessible level of government and affects us all in a direct way. Community participation in a municipal board or committee is not only valuable for each group’s success, but also a required function for local government.

The municipality is focused on making its boards and committees more reflective of the communities it represents. As such, applications are encouraged from rural residents, women, youth aged 18-25, and diverse citizens. Terms are generally for 1-2 years and are volunteer (unpaid) positions. Boards and committees typically meet once a month.

Residents interested in having a voice in the municipal advisory committee process, while helping their community, are encouraged to apply for these opportunities no later than Monday, May 13 at 11:59 p.m.

Volunteer opportunities (and the number of positions currently open):

  • Halifax Harbour Bridges Commission (1 position)
  • Halifax Regional Water Commission (2 positions)
  • Metropolitan Regional Housing Authority Board (2 positions)
