Halifax Regional Police Officers Recognized in Nova Scotia Legislature Today

Two Halifax Regional Police officers who received 2016 Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement awards were recognized today in the Nova Scotia Legislature.

Constable Stephanie Glendenning received the Community Service award at this year’s Atlantic Women in Law Enforcementconference on October 27 in Halifax. This award recognizes a female officer who distinguishes herself through superior accomplishments by developing, designing, implementing and participating in programs involving communities.

Constable Glendenning is a Community Response Officer (CRO) in the Greystone community housing area of Spryfield. She has worked there for the last two and a half years weaving herself into the fabric of this community and embracing it as her own. Cst. Glendenning goes well beyond policing criminal behavior in the area. In her role as CRO, she has helped revitalize or start many key neighbourhood improvement initiatives, including Greystone youth days and a summer reading program. She works with partner agencies, such as Children’s Family Services, to ensure that youth in the area are well looked after and not in high risk homes, and with the housing authority to uphold tenant and community safety.

Constable Monia Thibault received the Excellence in Performance award at this year’s Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement conference on October 27 in Halifax. This award recognizes a female officer who distinguishes herself through superior attention to duty or outstanding investigative effort that leads to the identification, location or arrest of a major criminal or criminal activity.

Constable Thibault has been a Halifax Regional Police patrol officer since 2008 and is currently assigned to East Division. She is recognized among her peers for her policing experience and instincts. A testament to this, in 2015, Cst. Thibault located a sexual assault in progress. Upon her quick arrest of the suspect who is now awaiting trial, she attended to the victim with compassion, kindness and support akin to that extended by family.

We extend proud congratulations to Constables Glendenning and Thibault and salute them for their dedication to policing, public safety and our community.
