Today is National Peacekeeper's Day. We salute the men and women, including many HRP officers, who have served in support of peace operations in nearly 30 countries around the world.
Halifax Regional Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais attended the 2018 Halifax Regional Municipality National Peacekeepers Day commemorative ceremony this morning at the Dartmouth Alderney Ferry Terminal Park.
“Those who have taken part in Peacekeeping missions have voluntarily served in some of the world's most challenging places to bring a measure of peace to communities living in poverty, chaos and fear,” said Chief Blais. “In doing so, they have cemented a reputation for leadership, professionalism and humanitarianism in international peace operations.”
HRP officers who have served on a peacekeeping mission are permitted to wear their blue UN beret during their regular duties on Thursday, August 9. The United Nations flag is also flying outside Police Headquarters today.
