As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
During the month of July, there were six vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax; they all took place in HRP jurisdiction. Year over year, this represents a decrease from the 16 incidents reported in July of 2014. For the first seven months of the year pedestrian/vehicle collisions decreased 28 per cent year over year.
Forty-nine percent (46) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions reported between January 1 and July 31 of 2015 occurred in crosswalks, compared to 63 percent (81) in 2014. Of the 95 pedestrians involved:
• 25 reported no injury
• 48 experienced minor injuries
• 14 experienced moderate injuries
• 2 passed away as a result of the collision
• 6 did not report their injuries to police
