As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
During the month of July, there were 16 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Month over month, this represents a slight increase (+3 incidents) from the 13 incidents reported in June 2016. Year over year, there was an increase (+10 incidents) from the 6 incidents reported in July 2015. There is also an increase in the number of incidents (101 incidents) when comparing the period January 1-July 31, 2016 to the same period in 2015 (93 incidents).
For the period January 1-July 31, 2016, 55 per cent (56 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions occurred in crosswalks. Of the 105 pedestrians involved:
26 reported no injury
52 experienced minor injuries
16 experienced moderate injuries
3 experienced severe injuries
8 did not report their injuries to police
0 pedestrian fatalities
