Local Law Enforcement and citizens come together for Freezin’ for a Reason, a Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Nova Scotia

Wednesday, February 21st, Halifax NS - Members of the Nova Scotia Law Enforcement Torch Run (NS LETR) have created the coolest event in Halifax. The Polar Plunge is a new idea for Nova Scotia, but already has been proven across North America as an exciting and unique way to raise money for Special Olympics.

The Halifax Polar Plunge will be held in Grand Parade on Saturday, February 24th at 12 noon. Spectators are encouraged to cheer on Halifax Regional Police; Local Firefighters, Search and Rescue, local businesses, citizens and Special Olympics athletes as race to the finish from a 10ft high slide into an icy pool of water. All to support some very special athletes.

In July of 2018, 114 Athletes will represent Team Nova Scotia as they prepare to compete in their home province to earn a spot on Team Canada 2019 in Abu Dabi. It has been almost 25 years since Nova Scotia has had the honor of hosting this National competition. With that comes the opportunity to make Team Nova Scotia the largest it has been in its history.

Sgt. Kim Robinson, HRP, says, “The LETR is a proud partner of Special Olympics Internationally and locally. When Special Olympics Nova Scotia put out the call to help support Team Nova Scotia, our members were more than happy to answer. On Saturday we hope to raise $20,000 to help send this team to Antigonish and compete with pride.”

The LETR will also carry the Flame of Hope into the Opening Ceremony and conduct a Nova Scotia wide tour with the Flame leading up to the Games.

The forecast is looking like a great day for a Plunge. Spectators are encouraged to come out and watch the plunge and cheer them on. Chief JM Blais will lead the Brave plungers as the first plunger at 12 noon. To learn more visit the website at www.nsletr.ca.
