As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
During the month of October, there were 24 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Year over year, this represents an increase from the 19 incidents reported in October 2014; however, for the first ten months of 2015, pedestrian/vehicle collisions decreased 17 per cent when compared to the same period in 2014.
Fifty-four per cent (82 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions reported between January 1 and October 31, 2015 occurred in crosswalks, compared to 61 percent (113 incidents) in 2014. Of the 157 pedestrians involved:
• 44 reported no injury
• 76 experienced minor injuries
• 24 experienced moderate injuries
• 3 experienced severe injuries
• 2 passed away as a result of the collision
• 8 did not report their injuries to police
