October vehicle/pedestrian collision stats
Halifax Regional Police (HRP) and Halifax District RCMP release a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
During the month of October, there were 25 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. Month over month, this represents an increase of seven from the 18 incidents reported in September 2017. Year over year, the number of incidents decreased slightly; there were 27 incidents reported in October 2016.
For January - October 2017, there have been 170 reported incidents of vehicle/pedestrian collisions, an increase of 12 incidents over the same period in 2016, involving 176 pedestrian victims. Of the incidents, 67.06 per cent (114 incidents) occurred in crosswalks. Of the 176 pedestrians involved:
• 54 reported no injury
• 88 experienced minor injuries
• 18 experienced moderate injuries
• 1 experienced severe injuries
• 15 did not report their injuries to police
