Citizens are invited to an open house Monday evening to learn about – and discuss – proposed next steps in making enhancements to Spring Garden Road.
The municipality is seeking feedback on three options for how Spring Garden Road (between Robie and Barrington streets) could function in the future, specifically as a transportation corridor.
The public is invited to discuss the options with planning staff and share their opinions on what they like and don’t like. This is the next phase of the project to improve the look and usability of one of Halifax’s busiest and most dynamic downtown shopping districts.
This phase puts emphasis on the major transportation components of the street, such as relative widths of the road and sidewalks, transit priority, and space to enhance pedestrian and retail experiences.
Another round of engagement will take place later in the year to look at design treatments for the street.
When: Monday, Jan. 7 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (drop in at any time within this window)
Where: Halifax Central Library – Room 301, 5440 Spring Garden Rd.
The open house will not have a formal presentation, but there will be display boards and planning staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Journée portes ouvertes sur le futur du chemin Spring Garden
Le vendredi 4 janvier 2019 (Halifax, N.-É.) – Les citoyens sont invités à une journée portes ouvertes dans la soirée de lundi afin d’en savoir plus – et pour discuter – des prochaines étapes proposées afin d’améliorer le chemin Spring Garden.
La municipalité demande une rétroaction sur trois options pour la façon dont le chemin Spring Garden (entre les rues Robie et Barrington) pourrait fonctionner à l’avenir, en particulier en tant que corridor de transport.
Le public est invité à discuter des options avec le personnel de la planification et à partager leurs opinions sur ce qu’ils aiment et ce qu’ils n’aiment pas. C’est la prochaine étape du projet pour améliorer l’apparence et la convivialité de l’une des zones commerciales les plus occupées et dynamiques du centre-ville d’Halifax.
Cette phase met l’accent sur les composantes majeures du transport pour la rue, par exemple : les largeurs relatives de la chaussée et des trottoirs, la priorité du transport en commun et l’espace pour améliorer l’expérience des piétons et de la vente au détail.
Une autre ronde de mobilisation aura lieu plus tard cette année pour examiner les traitements de conception pour la rue.
