Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Please be advised that the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, while crews work to clear streets and sidewalks of forecasted snow expected in our region tonight and overnight.

Vehicles must be off municipal streets during these hours to accommodate effective clearing operations. Residents are also reminded that their vehicles should be off the streets today, as per Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed any time they are parked in a manner that interferes with snow clearing.

Current forecasts are calling for periods of rain throughout the day, changing to rain mixed with snow at times heavy this evening and overnight. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected in our region, and local blowing snow is possible late this evening and overnight.

The overnight winter parking ban is in effect from now until March 31, 2015; however, it will only be enforced during declared snow and ice events.

The easiest way to be prepared is to sign up for CityWatch notifications of parking bans. Residents can also register by emailing contactus@311.halifax.ca or calling 311. Residents should note that the registration page is currently not compatible with CHROME web browsers and is not accessible through your smartphone; please use either Internet Explorer or Firefox on a desktop computer. The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.

For those who signed up last season, there is no need to sign up again, unless your personal information has changed. You will continue to receive notifications this season when the ban will be enforced. Standard text messaging rates apply.
