Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Please be advised that the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3, as there is a winter storm warning in effect for the Halifax region.
Vehicles must be off municipal streets during these hours. Residents are also reminded that their vehicles should be off the streets any time snow clearing is underway, as per Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Tickets can be issued and vehicles can be towed – day or night – if they are parked in a manner that interferes with snow clearing.
Current forecasts are calling for snow to begin in the Halifax region later this afternoon. Snowfall could be anywhere from 10 to 25 centimetres, mixed with ice pellets and changing to rain by Tuesday morning. High winds are also expected in some areas.
The overnight winter parking ban is in effect from now until March 31; however, it will only be enforced during declared snow and ice events.
The easiest way to be prepared is to sign up for CityWatch notifications of parking bans. Residents can also register by emailing contactus@311.halifax.ca or calling 311. Subscribers will receive timely alerts by phone, email, and/or text message when the ban is in effect and again when it is lifted. Residents who received these notifications last winter will continue to receive the service this year. Standard text messaging rates apply.
