Investing in public infrastructure supports efficient, affordable and sustainable transit services that help Canadians and their families get to work, school and essential services on time and back home safely at the end of a long day.

Andy Fillmore, Member of Parliament for Halifax, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Waye Mason, Deputy Mayor and Halifax South Downtown Councillor, Halifax Regional Municipality, today announced the start of phase two of infrastructure upgrades to the Halifax Ferry Terminal.

“Upgrades to public transit infrastructure makes it possible for Canadian communities to build modern, efficient and reliable transit services that transform the way that Canadians live, move and work," said Fillmore. "The government is proud to celebrate the start of phase two Halifax Ferry Terminal renovations, providing improved accessibility and a better commuting experience for thousands of transit customers, every day.”

Completed in spring 2017, phase one of the Halifax Ferry Terminal project included the addition of a new tourism kiosk, a reintroduction of tenant space, and service room improvements.

Phase two upgrades involve the renovation of the washroom facilities and the installation of a modern ceiling acoustic panel system that will dampen unwanted noise and create a more welcoming area for passengers.

“Any investment in public transit and its infrastructure is an investment in the sustainable growth of the Halifax region," said Mason. "The ongoing improvements to the Halifax Ferry Terminal will help more people make the decision to be regular Halifax Transit users.”

During this phase of the project a temporary washroom trailer will be located at the north side of the facility for the use of Halifax Transit passengers. The construction will not impact the ferry service schedule.

“We’re looking forward to completing the next phase of these important upgrades to the Halifax Ferry Terminal," said Reage, Director of Halifax Transit. "These improvements will enhance customer experience for the nearly two million annual passengers who use the Halifax Transit ferry network.”
