Police have arrested two Dartmouth men for a weapons offence in relation to an incident that occurred in Dartmouth today.

At approximately 3:14 p.m. on April 24, police responded to a report of two men passing a firearm back and forth in the parking lot of 60 Lamont Terrace, Dartmouth. Officers arrived on-scene and took a 26-year-old Dartmouth man into custody without incident. An “airsoft” weapon was located in the vehicle belonging to the first man. The second man, who is 22-years-old and also from Dartmouth, had left the area briefly prior to police arriving. He then returned to the parking lot in his vehicle and was also arrested without incident.

During the incident when police were looking for the second man and his vehicle, a similar vehicle was stopped by RCMP on Dartmouth Road, Bedford. That vehicle was quickly determined to not be involved in this incident.

The initial investigation revealed that the men took the "airsoft" weapon to the parking lot and passed it back and forth looking at it and then entered the Canadian Tire for the purpose of purchasing airsoft ammunition and a Co2 canister. Police do not believe that there was a threat to public safety in relation to this event, however, it caused significant alarm to the witnesses. Halifax Regional Police Integrated General Investigation Section is investigating.

The two men are facing charges for possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code, they will attend Dartmouth Court at a later date.
