Yesterday, police charged a driver with driving in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit.

At approximately 7:35 a.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 approaching Braemar Drive in Dartmouth. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A 17-year-old youth was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, he was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded. The youth was also issued a summary offence ticket for operating a vehicle without valid insurance.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
