Police have charged a man with 36 offences in relation to multiple incidents that occurred throughout the region over the last 11 days.
On September 23, Chad Stephen Clarke, 28, escaped from the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility. Yesterday, West Division patrol officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle being driven by Clarke in the area of Bayers Road and Ashburn Avenue in Halifax. Clarke did not stop and fled the area in the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle on Frederick Avenue a short time later and arrested Clarke and a female passenger.
Investigators from the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division have identified Clarke as being responsible for multiple thefts and break and enters throughout the region over the last three weeks.
Clarke is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges:
- Escape lawful custody
- Break and enter (x9)
- Possession of break-in instruments (x8)
- Theft under $5,000 (x4)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x4)
- Mischief (property damage) (x3)
- Theft of motor vehicle
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Flight from police
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
- Mail theft
- Attempted mail theft
- Fail to attend court
