Police charge man for break and enter and animal cruelty

Police have charged a man in relation to a break and enter that occurred in Dartmouth last week.

On September 29 at approximately 11:40 p.m., police received a call from a man who wanted to turn himself in to officers in relation to an incident that had just occurred in the 100 block of Windmill Road. Officers located and arrested the man in the area of the MacDonald Bridge a short time later. Police had been actively searching for the man after receiving a report at 9:45 p.m. that he had not returned as required to the East Coast Forensic Hospital in Dartmouth.

At approximately 11:55 p.m., officers responded to a report of a break and enter in the 100 block of Windmill Road. A homeowner reported that they had returned home to find their house had been broken into and their dog had been stabbed. Officers rushed the dog to a nearby emergency animal hospital for treatment of its injuries.

Bradley MacIntyre, 26, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court yesterday to face the following charges:

  • Break and enter
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Causing an animal unnecessary suffering
