Police charge man for multiple thefts

Halifax Regional Police has charged a man in relation to a pursuit and multiple thefts that occurred throughout the region.

On December 11, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle in a parking lot in the area of the 100 block of Wyse Road in Dartmouth as the vehicle and driver were believed to be related to a number of theft investigations. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and struck two police vehicles as he left the parking lot. Officers located the vehicle, abandoned in the 500 block of Windmill Road. Officers and a K-9 team tracked the driver to the area of MacDonald and Wright avenues where he was arrested at 1:40 a.m. on December 12 without further incident.

The driver was arrested in relation to eight theft investigations that occurred throughout the region in October and November of 2023.

Rene Paul Seers, 42, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Flight from peace officer - failure to stop motor vehicle or vessel while being pursued
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Theft under $5,000 (x8)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x3)
  • Breach of probation (x10)
