Police have charged a man in relation to the dangerous operation of a vehicle last weekend in Dartmouth.
At approximately 11:25 a.m. on March 5, an East Division patrol officer observed a vehicle driving dangerously in the area of Montebello Drive and Caledonia Road. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled along Caledonia Road at a high rate of speed. The officer engaged in a brief pursuit, but stopped out of concern for public safety.
The vehicle continued along Caledonia Road and proceeded through the intersection at Main Street onto Woodlawn Road where it struck another vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle that was struck were not injured.
The officer located the vehicle in the area, and after a short foot pursuit, arrested the driver who had fled the vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen in August 2021 and the license plate on the vehicle had been stolen from another vehicle.
Matthew James Wright, 35, was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court yesterday to face charges of:
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
- Flight from police
- Resisting arrest
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Fail to stop at the scene of an accident
- Driving while prohibited (x 7)
- Breach of probation (x 2)
