Police charge man in relation to recent Scotia bank robberies

Police have charged for Peter Guy Joseph Monteith of Dartmouth in relation to two recent robberies at the Scotiabank in downtown Dartmouth.

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on October 9, police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the Scotiabank located at 91 Portland Street in Dartmouth. A man came into the bank, jumped the counter and took cash from the teller. There were no weapons seen and there were no injuries reported. The man fled the area on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

At approximately 1:20 p.m. on October 15, a man entered the same bank and advised the teller that he had a knife. The suspect fled the bank on foot with an undisclosed sum of money.

On November 1 an arrest warrant was issued for Monteith. At approximately 5 p.m. members of the Integrated General Investigative Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigative Division arrested him without incident at a residence in Dartmouth. 

Monteith will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

Robbery (X2)

Wearing a disguise (X2)

Possession of a dangerous weapon

The investigation is ongoing.
