Police responded to a fire that had been deliberately set on North Street in Halifax last night and have charged a man in relation to the incident.
Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on September 3, police responded to a report of a fire in the 5700 block of North Street in Halifax. An investigation commenced by Halifax Fire and Emergency Services determined that the fire had been deliberately set. A subsequent investigation by the General Investigative Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigative Division identified a man believed to be responsible for the fire.
A 55-year-old-Dartmouth man was arrested in the 0-100 block of Jackson Road in Dartmouth shortly after 10:30 p.m. The man is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face the following charges:
- Arson disregard for human life contrary to section 433 of the Criminal Code
- Possession of an Incendiary Material contrary to section 436.1 of the Criminal Code
- Breach of recognizance contrary to section 144(1) of the Criminal Code
