Police investigate flight from police & weapons possession GO# 20-92489

On August 11 at 9:30 a.m., Halifax Regional Police officers responded to a vehicle collision at Victoria Road and Highfield Park Drive, Dartmouth. A K-9 Unit member was requested to the scene and responded from Halifax via the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge with emergency equipment activated.

While on the bridge, the officer witnessed a car in-front, a grey Mazda, take off at a high rate of speed, passing cars into oncoming traffic and failing to stop or pullover. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but lost sight of it at Wyse Road and Albro Lake Road. The officer continued to the original collision scene as requested while additional Patrol officers responded to the fleeing grey Mazda and located the vehicle in the 200 block of Windmill Road. It was abandoned and had a stolen license plate. 

Officers arrested a 19-year-old woman and a youth nearby. The officers observed a man running from the vehicle. Incidental to the arrest, officers located a prohibited Conducted Energy Weapon in the possession of the youth.  

The K-9 Unit member attended the location of the abandoned vehicle and started searching for the man. He was located a short distance away from the vehicle hiding in bushes.

The woman was released without charges. The 21-year-old man is being held for court is facing the following criminal charges of Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Breach of Probation. The youth is being held for court is facing the following criminal charges of Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Breach of Probation.
