At 4:10 p.m., 6 February, Halifax Regional Police responded to multiple reports of a red Mazda sedan travelling south-bound on the wrong side of the 111 Highway near exit 7 (Portland Street) in Dartmouth. A few minutes later callers reported the red Mazda sedan hit head-on with a blue Hyundai sedan.
The driver of the red Mazda attempted to flee on foot, but was stopped by witnesses. Officers arrested the 18-year-old male driver for dangerous driving and impaired driving at the scene. The occupants of the Hyundai (26-year-old man and 24-year-old woman) sustained serious life threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital. The 18-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.
Investigators from Patrol, Accident Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section are conducting the investigation, which is ongoing.
Traffic Blocked: All North bound traffic between Pleasant Street and Portland Street on the 111 Highway is blocked. Traffic will remain closed for an extended period.
Traffic Reopened at 9:05 p.m.
