Halifax Regional Police Traffic Unit continues to focus on distracted and aggressive driving and issued 34 tickets yesterday and today for motor vehicle-related offences.

Yesterday, members from the Traffic Unit issued 33 summary offence tickets: eight for speeding, three for using a cell phone while driving and 22 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates and invalid inspections.

Today, at approximately 7:25 a.m., a member of the Traffic Unit observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 101 at Highway 102 in Bedford. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 157 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

A 34-year-old man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded. The man was also issued a summary offence ticket for operating a vehicle without valid insurance.

The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
