Halifax Regional Police issued 36 tickets for speeding, stunting and other motor vehicle-related offences yesterday.
Members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 36 summary offence tickets yesterday: 15 for speeding; 1 for stunting; and 20 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates, using a cell phone, bald tires, tinted windows and failed safety inspections.
Officers spent time in the Larry Uteck Boulevard area of Halifax as well as the Portland Street and Joffre Street areas in Dartmouth in relation to community concerns.
At approximately 5:50 p.m. an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near Bayers Road in Halifax. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 107 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A 44-year-old Halifax man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.
In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
