Yesterday, the Halifax Regional Police Traffic Unit issued 46 tickets for motor vehicle-related offences.
On Tuesday, members issued 46 summary offence tickets: 27 for speeding (including one for stunting), 11 for no insurance and eight for other offences such as failing to yield and operating an unregistered vehicle.
At approximately 12:45 p.m. a member of the Traffic Unit observed a car travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 111 near Burnside Drive in Dartmouth. The officer observed the vehicle’s speed at 153 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
A 37-year-old man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. In addition, the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded. The man also received a ticket for driving with a revoked license.
The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
The road safety theme for April is speeding and aggressive driving. In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues, officers focus on these areas when conducting enforcement.
