Halifax Regional Police has issued a summary offence ticket yesterday for failing to comply with the regulations set out in the Health Protection Act.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. police responded a report that a man was not wearing a mask while approaching people in the lobby of an apartment building in Halifax. Officers spoke to the man and educated him on the provincial regulations which require everyone to a wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth while present in a public place. Police received a second call that the man was continuing to engage in the same behavior. Officers returned to the building and issued a summary offence ticket to the man for violating 71(1b) of the Health Protection Act which carries a fine of $1,000.

HRP is reminding everyone to follow the current public health measures related to the COVID-19 emergency.

We strongly advise members of the public to educate and re-educate themselves on these public health directives and COVID-19 enforcement measures.

Enforcement of these restrictions remains a vital part of the overall strategy to curb the pandemic. We all must follow the rules and do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.
