At 6:20 p.m. on May 1, Halifax Regional Police officers attended the area of Gottingen Street and Rainnie Drive in relation to approximately 40 protesters from the “Smiling Goat May Day Contingent” who were walking down the middle of Gottingen Street. Police requested the group, which included young children, to move to the sidewalk as it was a safety and traffic concern. Some members of the group complied with the police request but several declined to move to the sidewalk. As result two of the protesters were arrested for breach of the peace. They were released from police custody a short time later.
