Public engagement session on planning for Local Street Bikeways: Vernon-Seymour and Allan-Oak

Residents are invited to attend a public engagement session on Wednesday regarding preliminary plans for Local Street Bikeways on the corridors of Vernon-Seymour and Allan-Oak streets in Halifax.

Local Street Bikeways are streets that are optimized for bicycle travel by reducing the volume and speed of motor vehicles (if required), and by making it safer and more convenient to cross major streets. The purpose is to allow cyclists of all ages and abilities to comfortably share the road with motor vehicles, without the need of separated bicycle lanes.

Developing these Local Street Bikeway corridors is part of the implementation of the Active Transportation Priorities Plan and of the creation of a connected network of bicycle routes in the Regional Centre.

The public engagement session will discuss three possible options for each corridor, including traffic diversion measures and intersection treatments. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback on these plans.

When: Wednesday, Nov. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: St. Andrews United Church Hall (6036 Coburg Rd, Halifax)

Information from the engagement session and a public survey will be posted on www.shapeyourcityhalifax.ca on Nov. 9.

The recommendations will be presented to Community Council and Regional Council for consideration, with an implementation target of 2018.
