The Halifax Regional Municipality is reviewing and updating its Urban Forest Management Plan (formerly the Urban Forest Master Plan). This review will evaluate the awareness, understanding and satisfaction with the municipality’s Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) and creates an opportunity for residents to provide their feedback on the UFMP through public engagement.

- A survey will be open until March 7.

- February 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Canada Games Centre (26 Thomas Raddall Drive, Halifax)
- February 22 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Zatzman Sportsplex (110 Wyse Road, Dartmouth)
Since the approval of the original UFMP, there have been significant changes to the municipality’s planning standards and strategic priorities, including the adoption of the Regional Plan and the climate action plan HalifACT, that necessitate an updated UFMP to better align with the needs of our growing region.
Managing our urban forest ensures our region continues to receive the benefits trees offer and helps the municipality further its climate action. Since 2012, the municipality has advanced these efforts by implementing a cyclical pruning program, a tree planting program and solidifying the role of trees through the Municipal Design Guidelines.
Following public engagement, staff will review and consider feedback, draft the new UFMP and present it to Regional Council for final review and approval.

Les résidents sont invités à participer au développement du plan de gestion des forêts urbaines
La municipalité régionale de Halifax examine et met à jour son plan de gestion des forêts urbaines (anciennement le plan directeur des forêts urbaines). Cet examen évaluera la connaissance, la compréhension et la satisfaction à l’égard du plan de gestion des forêts urbaines (PGFU) de la municipalité et donnera l’occasion aux résidents de donner leur avis sur le PGFU par le biais d’un engagement public.

Depuis l’approbation du PGUF initial, des changements importants ont été apportés aux normes de planification et aux priorités stratégiques de la municipalité, y compris l’adoption du plan régional et du plan d’action sur le climat HalifACT, qui nécessitent une mise à jour du PGUF afin de mieux répondre aux besoins de notre région en croissance.
La gestion de nos forêts urbaines fait en sorte que notre région continue de bénéficier des avantages offerts par les arbres et aide la municipalité à poursuivre sa lutte contre les changements climatiques. Depuis 2012, la municipalité a fait progresser ces efforts en mettant en œuvre un programme d’élagage cyclique, un programme de plantation d’arbres et en renforçant le rôle des arbres grâce aux Lignes directrices sur l’aménagement urbain.
À la suite de la consultation publique, le personnel examinera les commentaires reçus, rédigera le nouveau PGUF et le présentera au conseil régional pour examen et approbation définitifs.
