The Halifax Regional Municipality continues to monitor and respond to the rapidly evolving effects of COVID-19.
In light of the decision by the Province of Nova Scotia to reopen all provincial and municipal parks, the municipality will begin the reopening of all parks, trails, greenspaces and cemeteries effective immediately. With over 900 parks and 425 km of trails in the municipality, this process will take time. Staff are working quickly to remove all barricades, locks and gates from parks to adjust to these changes. We ask residents for their patience during the reopening period.
All beaches, sports courts, and playgrounds remain closed until further notice.
While the province has indicated that sports fields can open, the municipality is not in a position to open these facilities at this time. More information regarding the status of sports fields will be shared next week.
Staff are working quickly to ensure facilities that are closed will be marked accordingly, where possible; however, this process will also take time and residents are responsible for not using these facilities.
Residents are asked to stay within their own communities when visiting parks and greenspaces, and to continue practicing social distancing and socializing with members of their own households.
All recreation centres across the municipality remain closed at this time, and all spring/summer programming remains cancelled.
