As part of our continued focus on pedestrian safety, Halifax Regional Police and Halifax District RCMP have committed to releasing a monthly vehicle/pedestrian collision report to provide police and citizens with more contextual information on this issue.
During the month of September, there were 22 vehicle/pedestrian collisions in Halifax. The same number of incidents were reported in September of 2014; however, for the first nine months of 2015, pedestrian/vehicle collisions decreased 21 per cent when compared to the same period in 2014.
Fifty-three per cent (68 incidents) of vehicle/pedestrian collisions reported between January 1 and September 30, 2015 occurred in crosswalks, compared to 62 percent (101 incidents) in 2014. Of the 133 pedestrians involved:
• 36 reported no injury
• 66 experienced minor injuries
• 19 experienced moderate injuries
• 3 experienced severe injuries
• 2 passed away as a result of the collision
