The Halifax Regional Municipality has released the following statement regarding the release of an independent report, commissioned by the Province of Nova Scotia and submitted to the Executive Panel on Housing in the HRM, on barriers to effective and efficient housing development in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The Halifax Regional Municipality is very pleased to see that the recommendations of this independent report serve to validate the important work of the municipality, including efforts to address affordable housing. Many of the recommendations reflect work that is well underway and the municipality is confident that this work will be completed in a timely manner. There is an immediate need for more skilled trades and construction workers to support the creation of housing by the private and not-for-profit sectors – and the Halifax Regional Municipality is prepared to support provincial and federal efforts in that respect, in collaboration with the development industry.
The municipality continues to collaborate with its provincial counterparts, including the work of the Executive Panel, as well as our development industry partners to advance ongoing efforts to accelerate housing activity and contribute to increasing the supply of housing in our region.

Déclaration concernant la publication d’un rapport indépendant sur les obstacles à la construction de logement dans la Municipalité régionale d’Halifax
La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax a publié la déclaration suivante concernant la publication d’un rapport indépendant, commandé par la province de la Nouvelle-Écosse et soumis au Comité exécutif sur le logement dans la MRH, sur les obstacles à la construction efficace et efficiente de logements dans la Municipalité régionale d’Halifax.
La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax est très heureuse de constater que les recommandations de ce rapport indépendant servent à valider le travail important de la municipalité, y compris les efforts visant à régler le problème du logement abordable. Bon nombre des recommandations reflètent le travail qui est sur la bonne voie et la municipalité est convaincue que ce travail sera achevé en temps opportun. Il y a un besoin immédiat de plus de travailleurs de métiers spécialisés et en construction pour appuyer la création de logements par les secteurs privé et sans but lucratif. La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax est prête à appuyer les efforts provinciaux et fédéraux à cet égard, en collaboration avec l’industrie de la construction.
La municipalité continue de collaborer avec ses homologues provinciaux, y compris le travail du Comité exécutif, ainsi que nos partenaires de l’industrie de la construction pour faire progresser les efforts continus visant à accélérer l’activité dans le secteur du logement et à contribuer à accroître l’offre de logements dans notre région.
