UPDATE:: Wayne Derrick Bassett, 61, of Dartmouth was held to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of uttering threats (x4), assault (x4) and assaulting a police officer.

Suspect in custody after a weapons call in Halifax

On July 15 at 7:09 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of a man who had threatened a group of other men saying he would stab them with a knife, near the 1400 Block of Lower Water Street, Halifax. Police arrived and took a 61-year-old man into custody without incident. A knife was not located.

After investigating it was learned that the suspect had been in a fight with an unknown man on the Halifax Waterfront. When a group of other men tried to break up the fight the suspect threatened to stab them making gestures that he had a knife. A knife was never seen throughout the incident.

The investigation is in the preliminary stages and charges are anticipated.
