Halifax Regional Municipality is notifying residents and motorists that effective Monday, the continuous roadway linking Herring Cove Road to North West Arm Drive will become Osborne Street.

Currently this stretch includes a portion of Withrod Drive, all of Mayo Street, and all of Osborne Street.

Beginning Monday, the entire thoroughfare will become Osborne Street.

Seventy-five properties are affected by this change. Each property has received a complimentary blue and white civic number plate with their new street number, and Canada Post will redirect mail to the new addresses free of charge for the next year.

Municipal staff and the Civic Addressing Public Safety Committee work together to identify and correct issues with street configurations and/or civic numbering.

These specific changes are required due to the confusion created by having three named streets along one continuous roadway, each with a different set of numbering.

Reviews of streets in the municipality are conducted using the Civic Addressing Policies (Administrative Order 29). During the review of these streets the committee identified two policies the current configuration of streets does not meet.

A8: Continuous streets shall have one name throughout the entire length –Withrod/Mayo/Osborne currently travel as a continuous street but have three different names
A9: No street name shall be continued through a right-angle turn – Withrod currently has a right-angle turn at the intersection of Withrod and Mayo
These changes will help ensure emergency services, mail, and other municipal/commercial services are efficiently directed to appropriate properties.
