Update: Police make arrest in assault of transit bus driver after public help identify suspects

Two people have been identified and arrested after police issued a media release and the public helped identify the pair.

On December 31, 2015 at 11 a.m., officers responded to a report of an assault on Penhorn route number 66 bus that was parked at the Penhorn Mall Terminal. After boarding the bus, a man abruptly pushed past a female passenger as she was proceeding down the aisle. The driver asked the man to exit the bus which resulted in a verbal argument. The man spit in the driver’s face and then exited the bus. The driver also exited the bus and the man physically assaulted him by striking him in the face. The man was with a female companion who kicked the driver in the legs when he and the male suspect fell to the ground. The man and the woman left the terminal on foot headed towards Gaston Road. The 47-year-old male bus driver suffered non-life threatening injuries but declined to be assessed by EHS.

On January 11, 2016 police issued a media release seeking the public’s assistance to identify the pair. After receiving numerous tips from the public, both suspects have been identified. A 25-year-old man from Dartmouth was arrested yesterday in Dartmouth. A 25-year-old, also from Dartmouth, was arrested today, in Dartmouth. Both are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court at a later date to face one count each of assault.

Police thank the public and the media for their assistance with the successful conclusion of this investigation.
