UPDATE: Police release names of accused in weekend theft/vehicle collisions

Police are releasing the names of three people charged in relation to an incident that occurred this weekend where a police vehicle and two citizens’ vehicles were struck after the suspects in a theft fled from police.

Courtney Lynn Shea of Dartmouth, the 33-year-old female driver, was charged with one count each of theft and possession under $5000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, flight from police and two counts each of failing to stop at the scene of an accident and of assaulting police.

Kevin Charles Purcell of Beaverbank, a 38-year-old male passenger, was charged with one count of theft and possession under $5000.

Stephen Andrew Coleman of Halifax, a 29-year-old male passenger, was charged with one count each of theft and possession under $5000, resist arrest and breach of a recognizance.

All three accused appeared in court today.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. on January 5, police responded to a report of a theft at the Best Buy located at 119 Gale Terrace in Dartmouth.

The vehicle driven by the suspect struck a parked vehicle while leaving the area and, after police located the vehicle on Main Street in Dartmouth, the suspect vehicle struck a marked police vehicle head-on while fleeing police. No one was injured. The pursuit was called off and the suspect vehicle headed onto the Waverley Road where it struck another vehicle at approximately 3:45 p.m. A woman and two children sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The three suspects fled on foot but were tracked by a police service dog and apprehended by RCMP and HRP members in the 0-100 block of Rolling Hills Drive.

Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are continuing the investigation.
