At 8:30 a.m. on October 8, Halifax Regional Police were made aware of property damage committed to several historical sites within Point Pleasant Park in Halifax. It is believed the damage was committed during the overnight hours. Most disturbing was the Sailors’ Memorial being defaced with paint splattered over the panels containing the names of the fallen. Anti-war slogans including the anarchy symbol were present. Other structures and information signs within the park were also defaced.

It was not long before HRM staff and local residents , including veterans, began removing the graffiti.

A call was placed to 311, which will have additional staff and resources deployed tomorrow to remove any remaining graffiti.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police at 902-490-5016.
