The Task Force on the Commemoration of Edward Cornwallis and the Recognition and Commemoration of Indigenous History is hosting the second and final phase of public engagement to seek public input.
Residents are invited to join facilitated conversation circles to discuss:
- How the municipality should recognize and commemorate Indigenous history in the Halifax Regional Municipality
- How history in general should be commemorated and what we should take into consideration when doing so
The sessions will take place as follows:
Monday, Oct. 28 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Zatzman Sportsplex
Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre
Both facilities are accessible.
A notetaker will be present to capture the conversation at each table.

Phase one of the public engagement focused on the commemoration of Edward Cornwallis on municipal assets including the statue, park and street and how best to recognize and commemorate Indigenous history in the Halifax Regional Municipality as part of a more complete history.
Public input will help inform the recommendations by the Task Force to Regional Council regarding the commemoration of Edward Cornwallis on municipal assets (e.g. park, statue, street) and on the recognition and commemoration of indigenous history in the lands now known as the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Le Groupe de travail sur la commémoration d’Edward Cornwallis et la reconnaissance et la commémoration de l’histoire autochtone organise la deuxième et dernière phase de la mobilisation du public afin d’obtenir des commentaires du public.
Les résidents sont invités à se joindre aux cercles de conversation animés afin de discuter de :
- La façon dont la municipalité devrait reconnaître et commémorer l’histoire autochtone de la Municipalité régionale d’Halifax
- La façon dont l’histoire en général devrait être commémorée et ce que nous devrions prendre en considération pour ce faire
Les séances auront lieu comme suit :
Le lundi 28 octobre de 18 h à 20 h 30 au Zatzman Sportsplex
Le mardi 29 octobre de 18 h à 20 h 30 au Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre
Les deux installations sont accessibles.
Un preneur de notes sera présent pour saisir la conversation à chaque table.
