Police charge man for attempted murder

Police have charged a man with attempted murder in relation to a stabbing that occurred in Halifax earlier this month.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on January 17, police responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment building in the 5500 block of Bilby Street. Police located a 37-year-old man who had been stabbed. The man was transported to hospital with what were believed to be life threatening injuries.

Through the investigation it was determined that the two men were involved in a dispute that escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the victim being stabbed.  Investigators believe the two men are known to each other.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on January 25, members of the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division along with members of the Central Division Quick Response Unit, arrested a man in a residence in the 6400 block of Young Street in Halifax.

Lorne Steven Pottie, 37, of Halifax is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
