Police have charged a man in relation to nine thefts that have occurred in Halifax over the last month.
Police received nine reports of thefts that occurred between March 10 and April 5, where a man had entered a store and asked for cigarettes. The employee would place the cigarettes on the counter the man would take them and then run from the store.
Investigators were able to identify a suspect who they believed to be responsible for the thefts. At approximately 9:30 a.m. on April 14 officers arrested the suspect after locating him in a vehicle near the Macdonald Bridge in Dartmouth.
Shawn Allen Pemberton, 45, of Halifax is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face the following charges:
- Theft under $5,000 (x 9)
- Possession of stolen property under $5,000 (x 9)
- Breach of probation (x 22)
