Police investigate arson #GO 21-25510

On March 1 at 11:15 p.m., Halifax Regional Police and Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Services responded to a fire alarm inside an apartment building at 201 Rutledge Street, Bedford. Multiple callers reported smoke inside the building. Numerous tenants evacuated the building. Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Services located a fire in a stairwell and quickly extinguished it. No one was injured and all tenants were able to return to home. 

Fire Investigators confirmed the fire was intentionally set and the arson investigation has been turned over to police. The investigation is in the early stages and is ongoing. Police will remain on scene for the Forensic Identification Section to process the scene in day light.
